The Swing Guy

A Tale of Friendship Against Odds

In the near future, humans and Elysians coexist uneasily in neighborhoods, workplaces, and even in the soup kitchen Iliana’s father opened against the family’s protest.

It was conceived as a way to bring everyone together, to help them recognize and unite in their shared struggles. But wherever they gather they inevitably find fear, anger, and a clash of cultures that ends in violence and division.

Then one day Iliana meets an Elysian while visiting a park.

“Humans and Elysians can never be friends,” Iliana tells him confidently, “even if you share all of your secrets with me and I share all of mine with you.”

And he is forced to agree; the sentiment is all too common.

But the park is a place of détente. Sitting in the swings, kicking her feet into the sun, Iliana begins to discover something else.

“The Swing Guy” is a story of shared experiences, cross-cultural understanding, and friendship against odds.
